The International Conference on Information Systems Supervision started in Zagreb today (1 June 2009), with information technology (IT) supervisors of regulatory and supervisory institutions from twenty-five European countries as participants. The aim of the three-day Conference, organised by the Croatian National Bank, is to provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge, opinions and experiences in the area of information systems supervision and promote institutional cooperation.
As modern banking is in all its aspects heavily dependent on information technology, IT risks have a significant impact on the operational risk level and, in turn, on the level of capital requirements under Basel II and the Capital Requirements Directive (CRD). This is against a background of an increasing outsourcing of the development and maintenance of information systems and the relocation of computer centres to other countries. In addition, almost all credit institutions use electronic distribution channels in their everyday operations to provide banking services to clients. Therefore, establishing and conducting information technology supervision pose a challenge for each supervisory institution.
The Conference will feature papers by information systems supervisors, including those from the CNB, and other experts in the fields of information security and information systems revision. The Conference agenda includes topics relating to information systems supervision, IT risk assessment, outsourcing, electronic signature, electronic money institutions, information systems security, with an accent on the security of web applications and issues related to two-factor authentication, and operational risk in the context of the implementation of Basel II and the CRD.
