On 25 November 2002, the Croatian National Bank will put into circulation a new 50 kuna banknote, issue date 7 March 2002.
The new issue of the 50 kuna banknote will have the same ground color and basic design as the previous banknote of the same denomination, issue date 31 October 1993, which remains in circulation as legal tender.
However, new banknotes are printed on an improved cotton base, which enhances banknote resistance to creases and folds, i.e. resistance to wear. They also include additional security features (metallized foil - hologram), which provide for expeditious checking of banknote authenticity and prevent counterfeiting.
Additionally, the new issue of the 50 kuna banknote no longer bears the legend "Narodna banka Hrvatske" but the current name of the central bank "Hrvatska narodna banka", as well as the facsimile signature of the present CNB governor, Željko Rohatinski, PhD.
