How to exchange invalid foreign currency banknotes or coins?

Due to numerous inquiries from citizens about where they can exchange invalid foreign currency, which has ceased to be legal tender in the issuing country, we inform citizens that the Croatian National Bank does not exchange foreign currency.

According to the practice of central banks, exchange periods exist in which invalid currency can be exchanged with financial institutions, and after that period it can only be exchanged at the central bank that issued the currency, free of charge. Depending on the type (banknote or coin) as well as the reasons for withdrawing invalid cash, some central banks may also limit exchange terms.

It is possible that some commercial banks and/or exchange offices in the Republic of Croatia provide the service of exchanging invalid foreign currency cash, but this depends solely on their business policies.
