The Croatian National Bank will on 21 September 2026 release into circulation the commemorative 2-euro coin “City of Vukovar”. The exchange of the commemorative coins for the public will begin on 9 November 2026.
The commemorative coin “City of Vukovar” is issued as part of the “Croatian Cities” series and features the commemorative motifs of the Vukovar Water Tower and the Danube River, which represent Vukovar as a city of particular historical, cultural and symbolic significance to the Republic of Croatia. The City of Vukovar was also represented on the 20 kuna banknote featuring the Eltz Castle. The coin will be issued in the amount of 500,000 pieces, of which 490,000 pieces will be available to citizens for exchange. The national side of the coin is designed by the sculptor Duje Matetić and the coin was minted by the Croatian Mint.
In addition to its numismatic significance, the commemorative euro coin also has the status of a circulation coin so that, as a rule, no fee is charged for its exchange. This commemorative 2-euro coin can thus be purchased for 2 euros.
Interested citizens can obtain this euro coin by logging in between 21 September and 5 October 2026, or until the quantity earmarked for exchange expires, at the following link: https://prigodne-eurokovanice.hnb.hr/. Citizens will be able to express their interest in exchanging up to a maximum of 5 (five) pieces of the new commemorative coin.
As of 9 November 2026, citizens will be able to exchange their coins on the basis of a confirmed pre-order in person:
- at the Croatian National Bank’s cash desk (Jurišićeva 17, Zagreb, from Monday until Friday, from 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.), free of charge;
- by postal services, with delivery to an address in the Republic of Croatia, subject to a postal service fee, paid based on an invoice to the Croatian National Bank;
- at the offices of the Financial Agency, subject to a fee to be paid to the Financial Agency according to its price list.
