On Thursday, 20 September 2007, Mr Charlie McCreevy, European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services held a lecture at the Croatian National Bank. The lecture was organised by the Irish Croatian Business Association. At the initiative of the Association, the lecture was established to honour Dr Ante Čičin-Šain, the first Governor of the Croatian central bank and later Croatia's first Ambassador to Ireland, for his immense contribution to the strengthening of Irish Croatian cooperation. The response address was held by Mr Damir Polančec, the Vice Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Croatia. In addition to the esteemed members of the Irish Croatian Business Association, the lecture was attended by the central bank's officials, representatives of various Croatian government and economic institutions, members of the diplomatic corps and many others.
