The Croatian National Bank will on 2 July 2024 release into circulation the commemorative 2-euro coin as part of the "Croatian cities" series with commemorative motifs that represent a renowned building in the City of Varaždin, of rich historical and cultural relevance for the Republic of Croatia, whose representation was one of the main motifs on the reverse side of the 5-kuna banknote. The coin, designed by the sculptor Stjepan Divković, author of the national side design, will be issued in the amount of 200,000 pieces. The coin was minted by the Croatian Mint.
In addition to its numismatic significance, the commemorative euro coin also has the status of a circulation coin so that, as a rule, no fee is charged for its exchange. Thus, the commemorative 2-euro coin will also be available for purchase at the same value of 2 euros.
The euro coin will be available for purchase as of 2 July 2024 at the counters of banks and at the CNB's cash desk (Croatian National Bank, Jurišićeva 17, Zagreb, from Monday until Friday, from 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.).
A maximum of five (5) euro coins per person can be exchanged at the CNB’s cash desk in the first weeks following the release in order to make it available to the largest number of Croatian citizens possible. Banks are also advised to enable the exchange of a maximum of five (5) euro coins per person.
